Hello, hello Society Members!
When the pandemic hit, my parents got COVID toward the end of March 2020 and my Dad ended up in the hospital for ten days because of it. I was lucky enough to still have a Corporate Hell Job and be able to work from home.
However, I had less time to read.
And without really trying, I accidently stumbled across short stories.
From that moment on, I was hooked. I could read these in 30, 60, or 90 minutes.
Which meant I read several of these a day.
Welcome to the 3rd issue of Book*ish, a monthly newsletter where I share my favorite short story romance authors and other book*ish things. You’re receiving this email because you signed up for Wet Panty Stories by Evolet, a biweekly publication of serialized short and steamy interracial novellas. If you decide to unsubscribe, I’ll be sad to see you go, but—PLOT TWIST—you’ll be unsubscribing from everythang! And by everythang I mean my stories as well as this newsletter. Thanks for reading and I appreciate your support.
So, last month, I introduced you to the author who started my journey in writing short stories. This month’s author isn’t an auto-buy, but I’ve read the majority of her books.
Not too long after I discovered Jane Fox, I found Olivia T. Turner and she quickly became a favorite. Not only are her covers 🔥🔥🔥
but she’s one of the few authors I read whose majority covers are “author-branded”—you know it’s an Olivia T. Turner book when you see the three cherries.
Which is really cool.
Kinda like the panties in my signature below.
Her books are like the first line in her bio. Guaranteed, you’re chuckling when you’re reading one of her stories.
And with torso filled covers being the latest trend, I prefer seeing the guy’s face and/or a full body shot.
Which is why I absolutely LURVE her Greene Mountain Boys series covers.
My favorite thing about her books is the Acknowledgements page—they’re unexpectedly funny.
Supernatural was one of my favorite TV shows (#TeamSamWinchester), and one of the many things I loved about the show—besides the eye candy that was Jared and Jensen—were the times they pretended to be FBI agents when investigating the case du jour. I always looked forward to the fake names they would come up with and it was a crapshoot whether or not I would recognize them. It was funny all the same.
That’s how I feel about Miz Livvy’s Acknowledgement page. It’s unique and I’ve never seen any other author do the page like this.
You can check out her latest release on Amazon:
EYEBANG THIS!
PASSIONFLIX is an entertainment streaming platform and production company founded by director and producer Tosca Musk in 2017. What makes this woman-owned company so unique is that she focuses on releasing original film adaptations of best-selling romance novels, while also streaming classic romantic movies.
Think Netflix for romance lovers.
Here are some of the books that have been adapted… to name a few.
I’m mentioning this because June is my birthday month, and on June 5th, my birthday, is the series premiere of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Season 1 covers the first book in the series, Dark Lover.
Years-years-years ago, when I was reading full-length novels, I DEVOURED part of this series. I say “part”, because there are 23 books in the “main” series and I honestly don’t remember where I ended. Or why I never kept going.
But when I was reading it… I was IN IT and saying, “You feel me?” whenever I could work it into a conversation. BWAHA! 😝
If you’re familiar with the author and this series, then you know there are some HEAVY expectations from the fans. When I was reading this series, I can’t tell you how many times I kept hoping it would make it to the big or small screen.
When I read Passionflix was adapting this series, I was skeptical. Ok, let’s get real… I’m STILL skeptical. I had a subscription to this service years ago but cancelled it because I wasn’t watching anything on there. I’d watched the first season, Driven, on a whim (and it was a series I’d never read, mind you), and was, like, “Okay, next season should be interesting.”
However, when the second season came out—with the second book in the series, Fueled—they’d replaced the lead MMC from Season 1
with this guy,
and, unlike the first season, there was no chemistry between the main characters with this new guy, so I Peaced Out.
But I digress.
When I was picturing BDB on screen, I imagined HBO, Cinemax, Netflix, or Amazon Prime picking it up. Because this series is big and popular, and I felt one of these companies could do it justice by bringing it to life.
I’m not the only one who feels skeptical. The fans’ reaction has been divided when it comes to the actors who have been chosen to play this brotherhood of vampires. Despite that, I’ve been enjoying the author’s reactions to seeing her characters come to life. I wonder if Charlaine Harris reacted the same way when she saw her characters come to life in True Blood (#TeamEricNorthman). My favorite is seeing her reaction to Wrath, where she actually ran away from him! BWAHA! Second favorite? Her emotional reaction to Zsadist. I think this character was my favorite from the series—and if it’s the one that doesn’t speak—then her reaction makes sense.
I signed back up yesterday because on my birthday, I plan to spend my evening watching the first episode.
Sadly, I already have my doubts since the heat level is only two flames, and the age rating is PG-13. 😒😳
PG-fucking-13?!!! WTF? I can definitely confirm that this series has a higher heat index than THAT and they are definitely NOT for children.
I’ll be sure to provide a review in next month’s issue.
Speaking of last month’s issue…
Two weeks after I posted about author Jane Fox, she sent out a newsletter! She’s back! After a 3yr hiatus she’s back and when she sent out that email, I IMMEDIATELY responded and said:
I. am. SCREAMING. Right now. I have SO missed your books! Your ears must be burning, because I was just talking about you on my Substack. I remember reading a few books about Zara and Krissa taking over, but the series was under a different name. So glad you're back! So excited for this series and I'm SO FUCKING GLAD you’re back. Yay!
She replied later that same day and said:
Oh my god I CRIED. Thank you so much for sharing this with me. You have seriously made my entire year. I was a little nervous about this comeback and this helps so much. I hope you love the new books!
Based on her new release newsletter, I wasn’t the only one that missed her books. Needless to say, her new book is now in my TBR queue.
Book One in the Zaftig Ever After series is now available on Amazon.
And that’s all for this month.
Happy reading and thank you for your support.
Peace, lurve, and wet panties,
