Hello, hello Society Members!
When the pandemic hit, my parents got COVID toward the end of March 2020 and my Dad ended up in the hospital for ten days because of it. I was lucky enough to still have a Corporate Hell Job and be able to work from home.
However, I had less time to read.
And without really trying, I accidently stumbled across short stories.
From that moment on, I was hooked. I could read these in 30, 60, or 90 minutes.
Which meant I read several of these a day.
Welcome to the 2nd issue of Book*ish, a monthly newsletter where I share my favorite short story romance authors and other book-ish things. You’re receiving this email because you signed up for Wet Panty Stories by Evolet, a biweekly publication of serialized short and steamy interracial novellas. If you decide to unsubscribe, I’ll be sad to see you go, but—PLOT TWIST—you’ll be unsubscribing from everythang! And by everythang I mean my stories as well as this newsletter. Thanks for reading and I appreciate your support.
Since this is the inaugural issue of Book*ish, I thought I might introduce you to the author who started it all.
I honestly don’t remember how I found her, but I’m guessing it was via how I discovered the short story genre… via Amazon.
I quickly gobbled up her Zaftig Dating Agency series.
And for the first time, EVAH, I had an auto-buy author.
For someone like me, who’s picky as shit when it comes to the books I read, this would be considered highly unusual.
Lemme ‘splain.
I have several authors whom I read consistently (whom I will introduce you to in this newsletter) …but I’ve never read their complete list of titles. I have to practically drool over the front cover, the book blurb has to pique my interest, and some keywords need not be present. Sometimes, the trifecta doesn’t tick all the boxes.
There are readers out there who have favorite authors. They’ll read ANYTHING they put out, no matter what, because they love their words.
I was not that reader.
Until Jane Fox.
Anything she wrote, whether it was her own series or part of a multi-author collaboration, I was buying it.
When I decided to close my editing business and get back into writing fiction, specifically dipping my toe in the Sexy Pool, Miz Jane’s books were the inspiration.
Why?
For the simple reason that she could tell a complete story—beginning, middle, end—in 7 chapters or less! The majority of the books in the ZDA series are only 4 chapters long, maybe 5 or 6 if you include both the Prologue and the Epilogue. I loved her books so much that I wanted to try and write stories of that same length.
The ZDA series has nearly 100 titles. How crazy is that?! I think I was reading a new title every month. Sadly, I don’t think she’s writing anymore because I haven’t received a newsletter from her in few years. I can only hope that I’ll be prolific and have that many titles under my belt someday.
That’s all for this month.
Happy reading and thank you for your support.
Peace, lurve, and wet panties,
