Hello, hello Society Members!
When the pandemic hit, my parents got COVID toward the end of March 2020 and my Dad ended up in the hospital for ten days because of it. I was lucky enough to still have a Corporate Hell Job and be able to work from home.
However, I had less time to read.
And without really trying, I accidently stumbled across short stories.
From that moment on, I was hooked. I could read these in 30, 60, or 90 minutes.
Which meant I read several of these a day.
In this issue:
Meet the Author: Brynn Hale

Quick Review: Black Dagger Brotherhood on Passionflix
Fun Fact About Evolet
Welcome to the 4th issue of Book*ish, a monthly newsletter where I share my favorite short story romance authors and other book*ish/romancey things. You’re receiving this email because you signed up for Wet Panty Stories by Evolet, a biweekly publication of serialized short and steamy interracial novellas. If you decide to unsubscribe, I’ll be sad to see you go, but—PLOT TWIST—you’ll be unsubscribing from everythang! And by everythang I mean my stories as well as this newsletter. Thanks for reading, and I appreciate your support.
Meet the Author: Brynn Hale
Like Jane Fox and Olivia T. Turner, Brynn Hale’s books are frequent visitors in my TBR queue.
Similar to Jane, Brynn holds a special place in my heart because I was brave enough to shoot my shot.
And it paid off.
To say that I subscribe to a shit-ton of author newsletters is the understatement of the universe. Honestly, that’s the only way I find out about new releases and, more often than not, it’s how I always find out about other authors when they cross-promote.
It was in one of her author newsletters that she announced she and another romance writer were starting an independent publishing house that specializes in steamy romance. At the time, I had started up my proofreading business.
For the third time. LOL
I thought, “I’m a fan of both of these authors. I read a lot of their title. You should reach out. What’s the worst that could happen?”
After two days of careful consideration, I decided to take a chance.
I reached out and told them about my business, offering to proofread for free for a month.
Brynn emailed me back and accepted my offer.
The free offer turned into a paid gig (for a little bit), and I’m not ashamed to say that when it came to the romance book side of things—because I didn’t focus on just romance books—Brynn’s company was my only client.
Even when I was hoping to work with more authors and turn my biz into a full-time gig.
You can see the projects I eyebanged on my Work with Me page.
I closed my proofreading business—for the third time—to get back into writing fiction.
But I still want to dabble, so if you need someone to eyebang your short story, you can check out the projects I eyebanged on my Work with Me page.
Brynn’s company, Last Chapter Press, is currently accepting submissions. Click on the image below to check out their guidelines.
And if you wanna check out Brynn’s books, her latest release is now available on Amazon.
Eyebang This!
Let’s talk about sex, babee! We’ve all watched it, the mainstream porn where it seems like only the guy gets off, right? Don’t lie! You know you’ve watched it! No judgement here. And honestly, if we can’t talk about it here, then this might not be the place for you. I’ve always thought, “Why do the women never climax in these videos?” Clearly, it’s all about the men getting off—because we clearly see them ejaculating.
It shouldn’t surprise me that this industry is controlled by patriarchal dick. And yet.
It wasn’t until I’d come across articles about “ethical porn”—for the second time this year—that I wanted to highlight two sites that I had read about. In a 2018 Bustle1 article, feminist pornographer, Erika Lust, stated:
"The concept of ethical as it relates to adult content production is complex," Lust tells Bustle. "It’s important to say there is not yet a consensus about what exactly it is, but in simple terms, ethical porn cares about the performer's welfare. It is adult cinema where consent has been given for every part of the film from all parties involved. This means consent regarding the sexual acts being performed, but also the rate of pay they are receiving. Personal limits and boundaries are respected and the performer can stop shooting at any moment if they feel uncomfortable. Everything is done under a safe sex environment, good working and safety conditions, and labor rights for performers and crew. This environment emphasizes safety and mutual respect."
In 2013, Erika launched a crowdsourced project, XConfessions, where anonymous members of the public submit their fantasies and experiences. Erika and guest directors then choose the best every month and turn them into cinematic explicit films.
A few weeks ago, Sssh.com was mentioned in an interview I was reading:
Female-led and Female-focused we're your source for ethically produced, explicit, sex-positive films. We're the evolution of indie adult cinema. Sssh.com feminist porn for women and couples. We're porn, re-imagined.
Porn, re-imagined.
I really like that phrase.
Review: Black Dagger Brotherhood
So, in last month’s issue, I mentioned that I was going to be watching the Black Dagger Brotherhood series on Passionflix. I also mentioned how skeptical I was of the heat rating as well as the making of the series to begin with.
Since then, I’ve watched the first 3 episodes and…
I’m glad to say that Tosca Musk did not disappoint. 👍🏽
I’m not sure why the heat rating was so low, but it’s since been changed to NSFW.
Actor Robert Maaser makes an excellent Wrath, the King of the Brotherhood. Not to mention incredibly easy on the eyes. Lordty, those cheekbones are enough to cut glass!
Episode 4 is out now, and Episode 5 drops on July 3rd.
New episodes drop every Thursday.
If you love the BDB books and are interested in watching the series, click on the pic below to sign up for a Passionflix subscription.
Fun Fact About Evolet
This is a new section I’ll be adding to these monthly issues. Personal tidbits about me so you can get to know me a little bit better. I thought I’d start with the most important one.
I’m a MONGO James Bond fan.
Sean. Pierce. Daniel. In that order.
I don’t remember when I was first introduced to the franchise, but it started with Dr. No (favorite Sean) and snowballed from there.
When he died, I took the day off and watched a marathon of his Bond movies.
When Pierce was chosen to carry the Walther PPK I. Lost. My damn. Mind. I knew he would make the perfect Bond when he was on Remington Steele.
Goldeneye is my favorite one of his.
When Daniel was chosen, I was incredibly skeptical. His version of Bond was grittier than I was used to, but he won me over.
Spectre is my favorite one of his.
And my sister had to wait with me in the movie theater after No Time to Die because I was crying so hard. I love Bond marathons, but this is the one movie in the franchise that I will never watch again.
To this day, the best gift I’ve gotten was this coffee table book from my older sister.
And that’s all for this month.
Happy reading and thank you for your support.
